Hand-guided machine embroidery is a skill used in couture dressmaking where the embroiderer creates a design and then embroiders it onto the fabric free-hand, using the needle of the sewing machine like a paintbrush. It takes a huge amount of practice and concentration to get it right and the result is a subtle painterly finish unique to the artist's style. It is rarely perfect and utterly unlike digital embroidery which is used for things like logos. You can imagine the difference betwen the two like printed text vs. hand calligraphy.
Pocket gilet
Made from a recycled 100% wool blanket with cotton trim and a pocket. Reversible! Lighter pink on the insdide.
The background:
Last winter I bought an old wool blanket in a second-hand store without much idea what to do with it. All I knew was that €5 was very little to pay for so much pure wool! It looked like the kind of blanket you'd find in a mountain refuge and I couldn't see it having much of a life in it's current format. So I decided to make use of it by turning it into a gilet that I could wear in my studio where it regularly gets down to 13°C in the mornings... No scraps were spared and so I added a little pocket on the front. It's extremely cosy and you can throw it on over anything to add a bit of style to your winter outfits.
Now I'm on high alert for these blankets and have already stocked up on a blue and a paler pink so more of these to come! Let me know if you want one of these colours and I'll make it specially for you.
